As a Mobile, AL native there are few things we Mobilians love more or take more pride in than our beautiful, cultural, and historically rich coastal city! That being said we do love when new things come to town to make us even greater. Recently we’ve had new restaurants, businesses, and even movies, come to our gorgeous port city.
Local news just reported of more exciting things coming directly to the port city- and I mean DIRECTLY to the PORT! Carnival Cruise Lines signed a 1 year contract with our port and we Mobilians are thrilled about that, in fact I’m scheduled to sail out next month! Carnival Cruise line is not what all of the fuss is about this time. Local 15 News (NBC’s WPMI) is reporting that a Royal Caribbean Subsidiary will be paying Mobile a visit. It’s called the Azamara Quest and is reported to bring around 650 passengers to the Port City.
What an honor for Mobile to be a Port of Call! According to Cruise Terminal Director Sheila Gurganus, this will be the first time Mobile will have ever served as a port of call for a cruise ship. Since this is our first time at such a task Mobile Mayor, Sandy Stimpson and city council have decided we need to make a great first impression, plus they are preparing for the arrival of the Carnival Fantasy set to arrive November 9th.
A fresh coat of paint was just put on the parking deck of the Alabama Cruise Terminal. Inside you’ll find new carpet, a new colorful paint job, upgraded lighting and new ceiling tiles. The total cost is just under $4.5 million in renovations.
“It’s really attractive. What we’ve done in the baggage claim area is really amazing. We had to meet some new standards because of homeland security so it will be an entirely new experience for them and the color scheme is great,” said Mayor Sandy Stimpson.
On October 24th the Azamara Quest will be pulling into Mobile. The 30-day cruise will be coming from Canada, it will be in Mobile for a one day stop. We hope it will give visitors that may have never been to Mobile, a chance to check out our museums, downtown restaurants and everything else the Port City has to offer.
Best of luck Mobile, lets put our best foot forward! Live life to the fullest, HAPPY TRAVELS!
